Art expert Tim Marlow presents a lively and accessible introduction to one of the world's greatest landscape painter, John Constable (1776-1837).
Constable brought a scale, ambition and impact to a subject long considered amongst the lowest forms or art. Often celebrated as a nostalgic painter of a lost England, Constable was in fact a fascinatingly contradictory figure: although often conservative in his beliefs, his artistic vision was radical. It was a vision that changed the course of British art.
As well as looking at Constable's most famous works, such as The Hay Wain and Flatford Mill, this programme explores lesser known works such as the expressive sketch for The Leaping Horse.
